Our Mission and Values – Growing in faith and friendship

Here at St. George’s, our Mission Statement for all members of our community is to:

“Grow in faith, have faith in growing”

This statement encapsulates our aim that everything that we do, say, learn and experience will be set within the context of faith. We strive to ensure that pupils leave St. George’s with faith in themselves, faith in others and faith in God; thereby possessing the values needed to live well in society and to deal effectively with the challenges that the modern world presents.

All of our staff share this vision and recognise children as unique individuals with specific God-given talents and needs.  They work tirelessly to provide a varied and engaging curriculum and a positive school experience. You’ll find our classrooms to be hives of activity, full of creativity and learning, making St George’s a special place indeed for children.

At the heart of our learning community are the following values:

  • Kindness
  • Respect
  • Faith
  • Perseverance
  • Acceptance
  • Service

Teaching and Learning – Growing in Knowledge and Understanding

Our talented staff consistently endeavour to make the children’s learning fun, engaging and tailored to meet each child’s individual needs. Our teachers and teaching assistants regularly receive high quality professional development to enable them to employ the most effective teaching and learning methods. This enables our staff to design a curriculum that is challenging and well-matched to the needs and interests of our pupils.

In addition to the excellent teaching and exciting curriculum on offer at St. George’s, we take care to enrich learning through the use of subject specialist teachers, visitors, first hand experiences, educational visits and themed weeks.

Raising the attainment of children across the curriculum is central to our teaching. We believe that children learn best when they know how to learn. Therefore, we spend a significant amount of time working on our Core Learning Skills. These skills are encapsulated within our ‘DRAGON’ acronym:

Doesn’t give up

Remembers and reflects

Asks good questions

Goes for gold

Original ideas

Not alone

We also believe that children learn best when they feel good about themselves. Consequently, the need to develop our children’s self-esteem are important areas that we focus on.
