Our Phase Charities

This year, we are working hard to improve how we support those less fortunate than ourselves.

In previous years, each phase has supported a charity of their choosing through a variety of charitable acts. We have decided we would like to further how we put our faith into action and so have developed our charitable giving offer to be further in line with our Catholic ethos and personal development.

Each phase will work together to support 3 different charities across this year. Each term we will have a different focus in order to put our faith into action.

Advent Term – We supported our chosen charities through charitable giving.

Lent Term – This term, we will complete an act of community service for our chosen charity.

Pentecost Term – We will become advocates for our charity. We will be looking to become their voice for their mission and seek to look how we can support change.

Look out for how each phase we complete their actions!

UKS2

In Upper Key Stage 2, their chosen charities are:

Advent – CAFOD

The official aid agency for the Catholic Church in England and Wales. With your help, we reach out to people living in hard-to-reach places, in war zones and those who are discriminated against.

In Advent in UKS2, we had a cake sale and raised £210 for CAFOD. Class 10,11 and 12 decided to choose ‘World Gifts’.  These are a range of charity gifts that will delight the people you give them to and help transform the lives of families and communities living in poverty. Here is a selection of the gifts we chose…

Lent – Amnesty International

Amnesty International is a global organization that campaigns for human rights.

Pentecost –  Place2be

They help schools understand and identify mental health problems, enable children and young people to focus on learning and give them tools to cope with challenges throughout their lives.

LKS2

In Lower Key Stage 2, their chosen charities are:

Advent – Salvation Army

They serve the local community out of our 650 churches and community centres. The work they do is varied, from helping victims of modern slavery, to nurseries, community choirs and food banks. Their community work is our strength, all powered through God’s love.

FS and KS1

Foundation Stage and Years 1 and 2 are working together this year.

Their chosen charities are:

Advent – Doorways Derby

They help and support those in financial difficulties along with their street kitchen visitors and anybody in a vulnerable position to make sure nobody goes hungry. They are supported by supermarkets, businesses, the general public and other charities.

FS and KS1 pupils collected a large pile of bags full of warm clothing, blankets and coats. These were delivered by Mrs Sanders-Day to the Doorways HQ, who were incredibly pleased with our offering. They thanked us for our support and kind donations.

Lent – Upbeat Communities

They are a Derby-based charity that exists to help refugees and asylum seekers settle and rebuild their lives in the UK, empowering them to thrive.

Pentecost – Christian Aid

They work with local partners and communities to fight injustice, respond to humanitarian emergencies, campaign for change, and help people claim the services and rights they are entitled to.
