The Reading Team
Our reading team support Mrs O’Brien with lots of areas of reading within school. They help run Reading Club once a week for those that need some extra support in their reading. They run the school library which is open twice a day and they also read with KS1 on the playground at lunch time. They are such a great support to all those children in school and are all passionate about reading and the joy it can bring.
The Reading Team supporting children on the KS1 playground
Children in the Reading Team give up their lunch times by reading with the children on the KS1 playground. They might read to some children that need some support with reading more fluently or they may gather some children together and read a whole story to them.
Visits to our local library
We have a great relationship with our local library – Blagreaves Community Library.
Last year there was a chance that it could be closed but, fortunately some locals have very kindly volunteered to help keep it open.
Our Upper Juniors wrote persuasive letters to the Council last year to say how important the library is to our community. We are so grateful that our children are able to visit every half term and borrow books.

Online Author Visits
This year is the National Year of Reading and as a school we will be taking part in lots of fun reading activities. Earlier this term, each class took part in an online workshop with an author. EYFS looked at stories through song with Simon Mole, KS1 looked at stories through sounds with Annemarie Anang and KS2 looked at stories through rap with Alim Kamara. We had so much fun!
